"Free Trade Port - Visiting Haikou" event successfully held in Hainan

People's Daily Online, Haikou, June 29 — On June 28, the "Free Trade Port - Visiting Haikou" event was launched in Jiangdong New Area, Haikou city in south China’s Hainan province.
   During the one-day event, internet celebrities and influencers from home and abroad visited Jiangdong New Area, Haikou Yaocheng Ancient Village, Wuyuan River National Wetland Park, Haikou Bund and other places, and praised the rapid changes that have taken place in Haikou in recent years.

Expansion project for international airport in Hainan set to be put into operation in December

The second phase of the expansion project for the Haikou Meilan International Airport in Haikou, capital of south China’s Hainan Province will be put into operation on Dec. 2, 2021.
   The second-phase expansion project is expected to better serve Hainan’s development as a free trade port with a comprehensive modern transportation system, enhance the province’s connectivity with countries along the Belt and Road, and boost tourism on the resort island.

Fishponds transformed into wetland oases in S China's Hainan

In recent years, the Jiangdong New District in Haikou city, south China's Hainan province, which used to be home to fishponds of various sizes, has been transformed into an area of outstanding natural beauty dotted with wetlands.
   Upon completion of the renovation project, the Maiya River Wetland, Furong River Wetland and Daomeng River Wetland had been fully developed at the original site of the fishponds using methods such as river dredging and the planting of vegetation.

Service center for expats working in Haikou launched

A new service center for expats working in Haikou was unveiled in Jiangdong on June 21, providing international talents with convenient services such as policy interpretation, consultation, and work visa pre-approval. It aims to attract more international talents to the park and to participate in the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.

Yacht crew training now available to foreign nationals in Hainan

As of November 1, foreign nationals can now take part in yacht crew training, examinations and receive certificates to become qualified crew members of yachts and other recreational boats in Hainan. The program has recently been approved by China’s Maritime Safety Administration making Hainan the first province in China to make the procedure available to foreign nationals.

Haikou attracts 31 company headquarters

Ten new projects including the Hainan Headquarters of the Hebei Research Institute of Construction & Geotechnical Investigation Co., Ltd., a major Chinese geotechnical engineering company, and the regional headquarters of the Sichuan Energy Industry Investment Group Co., Ltd., a state-owned investment enterprise, have become contributors to the headquarters economy in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan province.

The world’s first inhaled Covid-19 vaccine unveiled in Hainan

On 12 November the world’s first inhaled Covid-19 vaccine was unveiled at the Fifth Hainan International Health Industry Expo.
   For users taking the inhaled vaccine, the whole process takes a matter of seconds. Under the guidance of medical staff, users inhale the vaccine from the cup and then hold their breath for 5 seconds. Research has shown that the adverse side-effects in those who received the inhaled vaccine were significantly lower than those receiving the injected vaccines.
